Until now, Grand Seiko's chronographs have only been available with Spring Drive movements. Now, they have added a new mechanical automatic chronograph, the "Tentagraph."
It is equipped with the "Caliber 9SC5," also known as the "Tentagraph," a high-beat chronograph movement that vibrates 10 times per second.
The name "Tentagraph" is derived from its functions: "TEN beat (10 vibrations)", "Three days (power reserve of 3 days)", "Automatic (automatic winding)", and "ChronoGRAPH (chronograph)".
The Tentograph is a modular chronograph that adds a chronograph function to Grand Seiko's proud automatic movement, Caliber 9SA5.
By deliberately adopting a modular design rather than an integrated chronograph, the often complex structure is streamlined, reducing the load on the chronograph mechanism. This achieves high precision, robustness, and excellent maintainability.
Inheriting the energy-efficient "dual impulse escapement" and "twin barrel" design (featuring two mainsprings) that are hallmarks of the Caliber 9SA5, this watch boasts the world's longest power reserve for a 10-beat mechanical chronograph, up to approximately 72 hours.
We also pay close attention to the feel of the chronograph's push buttons.
The design, which intentionally incorporates a delay before starting with a half-press, is inherited from a mechanical stopwatch created for an international competition in 1964.
By keeping the button in a half-press state, accidental presses were reduced, ensuring accurate starts. Furthermore, the perfectly balanced feel—neither too heavy nor too light—was highly praised by the judges at the time.

A Dial Designed For Optimal Readability.
The dial depicts the majestic slopes of Mount Iwate as seen from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.
Prioritizing the legibility of the dial, which is the essence of a watch, the dial, which features three sub-dials, has a two-layer structure that raises the position of the dial. This shortens the distance to the glass, allowing for instant reading of the dial even while moving.
Furthermore, the chronograph seconds hand is adjusted to be as close as possible to the outermost chronograph seconds scale, and the minute hand to the innermost scale on the dial, and their tips are bent to enhance visibility.
